Growing up she would often work with her father in his woodshop in the basement--thus her love and skill at woodworking. There she met the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration (FSPA). After earning a bachelors degree in music education from Viterbo College (University), La Crosse, Sister Pat taught high school music for 21 years in Ashland (De Padua) and La Crosse (Aquinas) in Wisconsin and Carroll (Kuemper) in Iowa. Sister Kathleen taught elementary and junior high school from 1950 to 1963 at schools in Wausau, Superior, Mosinee, Platteville and Lima (Wisconsin), Guttenberg (Iowa) and Spokane, Washington. Her older brother, Father Joel, OFM, and her sibling, Sister Thomasine, OSF, were great influences in her choice. Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart | A Nun's Life Ministry She especially enjoyed her junior year studying abroad in Spain. Sister Rita attended her freshman year at Sacred Heart School, then transferred to Early Consolidated School for the rest of her high school years. After earning a graduate degree in communications and journalism from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Sister Patricia served as Central Region secretary for six years in Hiawatha, Iowa. Sister Ladonna was interested in helping others in any way she could, whether training someone to work in the business office, caring for students in the residence halls, teaching someone about bookkeeping, organizing the annual neighborhood picnic on the Viterbo campus or working toward improving a neighborhood with new street lights and a neighborhood garden. The FSPA community is grateful for her leadership, especially in leading the congregation into the world of social security and investment. She also attended the Theological Institute at St. Norberts College over the course of several summers. She often said that her work in development began when she was teaching at Fr. There, she met the Notre Dame Sisters and her interest in religious life began. Many remember her courage, strength and forgiveness as she overcame the traumatic attack in Tulsa. She served as a primary school teacher for eight years in Iowa (Mallard and Dedham) and Wisconsin (St. Joseph Ridge, Eau Galle, Ashland and Edgar). Sister Rita then worked at Henry Field Store in Storm Lake as a salesperson and typist until 1952. She was raised north of the George Washington Bridge often referred to as Innwood. Family and community members remember Sister Pat for her quick Irish witalways with a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. Then in a flash of light on Independence Day, she was set free. As a loyal companion to many, her interests focused on what was happening in other peoples lives, both family and community members.
